We’re excited to announce 10 new Diabetes Research Connection (DRC) awardees: early-career scientists selected for their bold ideas with the potential to transform Type 1 diabetes (T1D) treatment, prevention, and care.
This year saw a record number of applications, and DRC doubled our awardees to ensure promising, innovative projects don’t get left behind. With federal funding constraints threatening early-stage research, DRC’s seed grants provide critical pilot data, credibility, and momentum to help investigators secure larger grants. Our model delivers a nearly 20× return on investment in follow-on funding—proving that early support works.
Thanks to breakthroughs like AI-designed proteins, CRISPR gene editing, and engineered immune and stem cells, we are closer to a Type 1 diabetes cure than ever before. Every cancelled project is a potential breakthrough lost. For people living with T1D, that means more sleepless nights, more unpredictable lows, and constant anxiety.
DRC’s mission is to protect the pipeline of T1D innovation by carefully funding the most promising projects through our Scientific Review Committee. By supporting these early-career scientists, you’re helping ensure the next big diabetes breakthrough isn’t delayed.
Scroll through to meet our latest awardees!
Innovative Type 1 diabetes research projects, like those led by Diabetes Research Connection’s newest awardees, often struggle to secure federal or institutional funding at the earliest and most critical stages. Yet it is these early-career scientists and pilot studies that drive the next generation of breakthroughs in T1D prevention, treatment, and care. Through donor-supported seed grants, Diabetes Research Connection fills a vital funding gap, helping researchers generate the data and momentum needed to advance lifesaving diabetes research and compete for larger grants.
